Weight Loss for Health, Wellbeing and Pain Reduction

At 99kg last November Fatt Matt had Lower Back, Knee, Hip and Foot Pain,
He was feeling old and getting told he was overweight by those close to him!

At Masters he was in the super heavyweight boxing division up against anyone over 90.7kg, this fact, his line of work, and the banter from those close to him resulted in Matt giving Dr Andrew Huberman’s 16 hour Intermittent Fasting process a fair dinkum go!

Matt couldn’t afford to lose any strength so he maintained his resistance training regime, something Andrew Huberman (Associate Professor of Neurobiology) also insists is important in order to maintain existing metabolic rate!

Here is Matt’s story over the past few months:

– I fasted from 7pm each night till 12pm the next day,
– I broke the fast with a balanced meal then trained after digestion,
– I consumed a serve of 180 Nutrition’s Superfood Protein Blend after each fitness training session,
– I blended some frozen raspberries with another serve of 180 Nutrition’s Superfood Protein Blend a couple of hours after that,
– On the days I drank alcohol I had a whiskey on ice and usually with some salted mixed nuts,
– I began fasting again from 7pm each night.

I lost 2kgs in the first week and felt good, I imagined the weight loss reduction would slow as my body fat % reduced along with maintaining resistance training to preserve lean muscle mass,

To my surprise the rate of weight loss continued, after 5 weeks I was 89 kgs and in the Masters Heavy Weight division (under 90.7 kgs),

If I continued at this rate I’d be Cruiser Weight (under 86 kg) in a couple of weeks and sure enough I made that marker too,

I doubted I’d reach Light Heavy Weight (under 81 kgs), let alone maintain strength,

I felt better than I had in a long time, all my injuries and joint pains had left me, I could run, move and even think more sharply, this was quite mind blowing,

It seemed impossible to reach 78kg because in 2012 I’d basically starved and struggled to reach that catch weight (between middle and light heavy) for a boxing bout on one of Bunny Isgro’s shows, till I gave up, failing to go under 79kgs,

When I reached 76kg and with a skin fold measurement under 10% body fat I felt the best I could remember, everything was optimal, I was actually gaining strength, thinking faster, full of energy and zest for life!

Boxing sparring partners told me; “you’re more coordinated and boxing better too”!
The 23kgs of fat I’d removed from around my organs and waistline had hindered me more than I’d considered, without those kgs I’m better in so many ways and actually able to spar 110kg fellas better at 76kg than when I was 99kg,

Concerned I’d hit a wall, I brought higher calorie foods back into my diet including beer,

I’m now stable at 76-77kg having remained that weight since Easter (early April). I’m very grateful for the health, wellbeing and vigour I now have!

Weight loss doesn’t just make your body feel good. It boosts your mood and mental health. In a study of older adults, 3 months after a significant weight loss, they reported less tension, depression, anger, and fatigue!
